Ironically, the New Zealand company slated to take over uses data from the Met office, among others, for its own predictions, but the Beeb will save money if Metra undercuts the Met office quote. What I find curious, however, is that the Met office's own site warns that forecasting the weather even a week ahead is fraught with difficulty, and a month ahead is practically impossible. Why, then, they continue to make their bizarre and now totally discredited Long Range Forecasts is beyond me, unless they've got a mole working secretly for Metra :-))
